English Cocker Spaniel
Historical Summary of the Breed
It is one of the oldest breeds of English Spaniels, but, unfortunately, we are poorly informed on its origins. It was recognized as a breed by the "Kennel Club" at the end of the eighteenth century. Though Cocker Spaniels are excellent hunting dogs because of their versatility (they have been used for this task for a long time), they are currently also trained as show and companion dogs.
General Appearance
The English Cocker Spaniel is a very strong, athletic, compact and balanced breed. The body, as already mentioned, is compact with a well-developed chest and a slight inclination from the back to the tail. Its legs are strong and muscular, particularly the hind legs.
With a wide and light head, it has a large nose. The ears of the English Cocker Spaniel are lobed with a low-set droop, almost on level with the eyes. They have large eyes, normally brown, almost dark eyes, though some can have lighter eyes. The expression of the eyes is intelligent and alert as they are shiny and happy. You will find this dog in many colors.
Temperament and Behavior
An excellent and efficient helper in the hunt, thanks to its versatility, in the house it is a faithful companion. It is a companion dog; it shares all passions with its owner and only lives to please him.
It is naturally happy and it continually shows it by constantly wagging its tail. The English Cocker Spaniel is a dynamic dog, full of life, particularly when it is following a trail on the hunt. It is a sweet and affectionate breed, full of life and exuberance.
